Re: Sprocket carrier bearing

All is good. It came out like a regular bearing and I put a new one in.

Re: Sprocket carrier bearing

Thanks. I'll have a go at it this weekend. It has a seal over the bearing which I'll remove and replace. It looks like the bearing is easy to get to. Will advise.

Sprocket carrier bearing

I've got my wheels off and will be replacing the bearings In the workshop manual, it says that you need a special Suzuki bearing tool to remove the bearing from the sprocket carrier. Is this correct - or does it just get knocked out is usually done? Access to this bearing looks a lot easier than the...

Thanks for the reply. However, where exactly is the switch located on the bike?

Front brake switch

I located the brake switch for the rear brake as the brake light was coming on too late. Where is the brake switch adjustment for the front brake? - as the light is also coming on too late and I want to adjust it to come on earlier.

Windscreen, parking light and rear shock for sale

PARTS NOW SOLD I have a windscreen, parking light and a rear shock for sale. The first two came with the bike when I bought it 1 year ago and I bought the shock second hand as I needed the adjusting knob only but it works and adjusts fine. All are in good condition. I'm located in S.E. Melbourne in ...

Re: Gloss or matte black paint

My understanding is that satin falls between matte and gloss. more of a semi-gloss. Is that correct? If I was to touch up, gloss would be closer than matte I would expect?

Gloss or matte black paint

I'm going to touch up some of the black paint on my frame and other parts. Not re-spraying but just to do a bit of a touch up here and there with a small brush.

Is the frame on the GR650 a gloss or matt black finish? I expect that it will be the same on most bikes of the '70's and '80's.

Re: Replacing fork oil

Many thanks for the reply. yeah, you're right. The service manual that I have only has the picture of the forks completely disassembled. I was a bit confused when I pulled off the cap and found just a "plug" or stopper.I'll have a look at it on the weekend. Must be a type of circlip I susp...

Replacing fork oil

I have a 1983 spoked wheel model and am looking at replacing the fork oil. There's no leakage from the seals and they seem to be operating well so I'm just going to replace the oil. Looking through these posts, they mention that 235ml of fork oil should go into each fork-for the non air assisted one...

Fuel filter?

Does the GR650 have a fuel filter? Is in an inline one in the fuel line of just a mesh filter between the tank and the fuel petcock? Anyone know the answer to this please. P.S. I have a 1983 model.

Re: Starting a cold bike

Thanks for the feedback. That proves my point - that every bike has it's own individual method of starting when cold.

Mine would not start at all using your method, but it works fine with your bike.

Starting a cold bike

I was having all sorts of trouble starting my 1983 GR650X when it was cold, but after trial and error on many different techniques, this works for me. I switch the fuel petcock to prime, open the choke fully and with just a small amount of throttle hit the start switch, I then keep the throttle at p...

Re: Instrument cluster problem

I pulled the regulator off and seems to be suspect when we connected it to a multimeter. As this part is 31 years old I wont look a getting a used one from a wreckers. Suzuki want $350 for one but I can get one from the USA on ebay for $100 plus freight, so I may go down that path. I'll pull the clu...
