I only rode the bike a few times in the spring of 2010 and then set it up on the centre stand in my garage for the year. I cancelled my insurance and also I didn’t renew the licence for the year. I start it up every three weeks or so but that’s all for now.
I had visited a specialist knee surgeon in the spring of 2009 and he said my visit with him should have been earlier. Anyhow my first total knee replacement was done June 11, 2010 (left side) and the other side was done on October 6, 2010. It takes a few months to recuperate and I expect to be back riding in the spring of 2011 if everything goes well and if not, that’s it for biking. I should know by Christmas of 2010 and if I feel up to it I want to update my ride from the Tempter to a fairly new Suzuki Bandit. With knowing about having the surgery I thought it was a waste of money to insure and licence the bike this year and now I’m interested in selling it. I’ll wait until spring and set the wheels into motion with an ad on Kijiji and see what takes place. I’m not sure what a reasonable price should be for it, any suggestions? Maybe between $1,000 and $1,500 would be fair market value?
I’ll do a few things to the bike such as a service, spark plugs and a damn good washing but it really doesn’t need much as everything has been done and hardly ridden since all the major rebuilding. It was a fun and challenging project and I’m glad I did it and I’m glad I was able to save one old bike from the salvage yard. I hope it goes to a good home. Like giving up a household pet.

A lot has happened since October 2010.
My knee surgery was very successful and I felt I should reward myself for going through the pain and misery accompanied with it. Also my neighbour friend suddenly got ill and succumbed to cancer in a very short time period. I think it was some time in 2009 while lubricating a very parched throat at the local saloon a friend suggested I may want to buy a bike of 1200 or 1300 size engine. That really festered inside me for a long time and I was researching a Suzuki Bandit and I wanted to make a decision by January 1, 2011. My knees felt really good and I had some money so why not? However “New-to-Me” Bandits from 2008 and newer had dried up. What’s next then? After all the dust settled I came back from a small town near Winnipeg Manitoba with a 2008 Suzuki GSX1300BK in the back of my truck in mid January.
Now what about the Tempter? Do I keep it and have two machines to ride and maintain?
Or park it in a shed next to a 1950 BSA Bantam I have in storage. No, I better say good bye to the Tempter. I ran an ad in Kijiji and it went to a good home in Saskatchewan in February. Kind of sad to see it go away but it’s going to get used and that’s sure a lot better than it being horded for the next 20 or 50 years.
I hope some of my Winter Blues stories has helped others with their Tempters and are able to keep them running. The machine is very well engineered, designed and manufactured.
It was a really interesting and challenging project that wasn’t financially viable but when resurrecting old machinery money can’t be the main driving force.
