Hello from Oklahoma City

Postby Dwayne. » 15 Nov 2016, 02:13

Hi folks, new guy from Oklahoma City. Bought myself a 1983 GR650 a couple of weeks ago and have begun to work on it a bit when I'm not working on my GN400 cafe project.

Plans are to cafe it as well. Towards that end I found a fuel tank on ebay that came from a 1980 GS650E that was in very good condition. The entire rear sub-frame will be replaced with a new flatter version. Clip on handlebars, possibly upgrade the lighting to LED, new wheel and steering head bearings as well are also in plans.

Welcome to this small enthousiast group dedicated to the somewhat rare GR 650. Many surviving GR 650 are successfully converted to something it wasn`t originally designed for: motocross, Cafe racer or even sidecar tug. It`s a pity that this superb old Triumph Bonneville Japanese version didn`t encounter a bigger commercial success.

Thanks for the welcome. I recall when these came out here in the States. I was nineteen years old and in the market for a new bike. The choice was between a new '83 GS550E and a new '83 GR650. The GS550E won out as I was into cafe style bikes even back then.
